Editor's Note: I hope things are going well for you. The sons of Chap. 837 have been busy. Kevin Crusen gave a very interesting talk about his experiences as an Air Force Pilot in the recent war in Iraq. Our son, Mike, has been busy with his satellite engineering, but recently got called in on the engineering review team for the Space Shuttle problems. We will try and get him to give our group a presentation on it. Brian has been all over with his KC-135 as an Avionics Specialists. Both boys are really enjoying their Air Force experiences and thinking about what to do next.

I have been busy working on Kitfoxes with the build group. Some of you have seen the bright red one I have been test flying. It still wants to climb at 14,000 feet at over 200 fpm. I decided to see how well it glides, so I shut the engine down, slowed to 60 mph, stopped the prop and glided and glided for over 15 minutes. At 70 mph it only comes down at 65 fpm. What a hoot!

The family insanity continues. Randy bought an unfinished Kitfox 5 kit with the engine mount system I built for a guy in Alaska. The kit is 90% done and includes a CAM 100 engine, all instruments, radios, transponder, interior, ELT, and everything but paint to finish. He got it for about half of what had been invested. Now he needs to finish his license, build his airplane, and learn to fly a tale wheel. I am sure there is more, but we are late with this as usual.

Fly-Out: We didn't plan an official Fly-Out this month since there were so many planned in the area. June 7th was the Breakfast at Burns, June 8th was the Fly-Out to Garden Valley, and coming up on June 28th is the Gooding Airport Open House & Breakfast - FREE Breakfast if you fly in! This is the club that Ric Breshears is involved in.

Minutes of the Last Meeting:

Young Eagles: Chapter 103 is having Young Eagles at Nampa Air Show 9 a.m. on June 14th. We are invited to furnish pilots, planes, and ground help for this event. Kevin Hoirup reported on Young Eagles at Weiser Airport on May 10th. A total of 197 Young Eagles were flown. Both 837 and 103 Chapters participated in the flying. Volunteers came from as far away as LaGrande. Check the Young Eagles page for details.

Dale & Cheryl Cruson have been chosen to be the Oregon Flag bearers to Kitty Hawk. They invited others to fly along and said they had a seat open in their plane.

Glen Marcum gave an update on the Nyssa Centennial Homecoming Celebration the 26th and 27th of July. We have been asked to put on breakfast for a second morning. A motion was presented and passed to support a second breakfast.

The Chapter Web Site is up and lists events and dates.

Attendance at this meeting: 44 members and guests.

Program: Captain Kevin Cruson USAF, stationed at Mountain Home AFB gave a presentation on his participation in the war in Iraq. Captain Cruson is the son of proud parents: Dale & Cheryl Cruson and is a member of our chapter. Kevin showed slides and color photos of his base in Qatar and the aircraft and weapons used in the war. He told of his experiences including a night mission on the first day of the war. He told of successes achieved and hazards encountered. He answered many good questions about tactics and interservice/internation cooperation. The presentation was well received and appreciated by all those who attended.
