May Meeting: Our meeting this month will be on Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at 7:30 p.m.

Kevin Cruson will bring slides and give the program on some of his experiences with the Iraq War.

Glenn & Pat Marcum will bring refreshments.

Fly-Out: A suggestion for a Fly-Out this month was made by President Steve to fly to Sheep Creek Campground near Lake Nevada. Our normal Fly-Out date would be May 24th, but that is Memorial Day, so we will need to discuss this at the meeting.

On May 31st Vale is having an Airport Appreciation Day with a lunch barbeque, Old Cars, Helicopters , Ultra-lights, & Parachute jumps.

Glenn Marcum reviewed our participation in the Centennial Celebration in Nyssa on Saturday, July 26th . The breakfast will be held from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., expecting 300 or more diners.

Reminder: Vale is having a Fly-In and celebration on May 31st.

Steve Conant said that his sister would hand paint customer provided jackets for $25.00 to $50.00. Cheryl Cruson mentioned that "Big Sky" in Fruitland would do embroidery on jackets and hats.

Kevin Hoirup told about Weiser Young Eagles event May 10th. The pilots meeting will be at 9:00 a.m. and flying to begin at 10:00 a.m. Frequencies are Unicom 122.8 and standby, 122.75. Expected displays include Life Flight, Smoke Jumpers, Kitfox from Skystar, and possibly Warbirds.

New Business: Carrying adults on Young Eagle Flights increases liability and may cause problems.

Information from the Independence, OR, Noon Patrol told of minor damage to a Nieuport which veered off the runway. One Nieuport had engine trouble caused by a loose distributor.

Dorin Daniels offered past issues of Sport Aviation to anyone who wanted them.

Cheryl Cruson presented an airport safety video and told about the Firehawk Company possibly locating at Ontario Airport. They use Blackhawk helicopters to fight fires, fly aerial photography, and other activities.

Aviation Humor:

  • Always try to keep the number of landings you make equal to the number of take-offs you’ve made.
  • Good judgment comes from experience. Unfortunately, the experience usually comes from bad judgment.
  • The probability of survival is inversely proportional to the angle of arrival. Large angle of arrival, small probability of survival, and vice-versa.
  • Stay out of clouds. The silver lining everyone keeps talking about might be another airplane going in the opposite direction. Reliable sources also report that mountains have been known to hide out in clouds.
