We are an enthusiastic group of airplane bums.
Most any day you can find a dedicated few opening hangar doors at the
Ontario, OR airport, fuss'n with airplanes and look'n fer some excuse to
fly. Excuses are easy to come by. Somebody needs to check on the local elk
herds. Others checkout the scenic river canyons. Sometimes ya just gotta
see what the neighbor is doing, or go after that $100 hamburger.
Most any Tuesday morning, you can find a bunch of the folks having
coffee at Rusty's Pancake House in Ontario Oregon. There, the more
experienced (gray headed) pilots tell younger (more vulnerable) pilots
about their hair-raising experiences from some years back. The younger
pilots tell of their hair-raising experiences from the weekend before!
Builders share their successes in dealing with important things, like
hard to reach nuts behind the magnetos. Everyone listens about chapter
kids flying their homebuilts, flying the Air Force's Fighter Jets or
heading off to work on futuristic projects for Uncle Sam in the
Southwestern desert.

The chapter is made up of a great bunch of folks who love flying. Like
the name implies, we live along the Snake River, where it acts as the
border between Oregon and Idaho. It's an agricultural community of about
15,000 located approximately 50 nautical miles 280 degrees from Boise
Idaho. If you are flying through, give us a shout. Current weather
available on ASOS tel 541/889-7388. Unicom is 122.8. Under 5 knots, use
runway 32. Avgas is available during normal hours.

Other local airports within 15 miles radius include Payette Idaho,
Weiser Idaho and Vale Oregon. Many other south western Idaho airports
within 40 nautical miles Parma Idaho, Homedale Idaho, Caldwell Idaho,
Nampa Idaho, and Council Idaho. McCall Idaho is within easy proximity for
mountain flight to a great breakfast. We are within an hours flight from
several Idaho backcountry strips, including Garden Valley, Johnson Creek
and Big Creek.
If you know someone who would like a ride, bring them to the Ontario
Airport. We have several Young Eagle pilots who enjoy introducing kids to
aviation with a flight around the valley. Some pilots take pride in
flights for the mature generation called "Gray Eagles".
Come to the Ontario Airport. We enjoy meeting new folks. Ask for an EAA
member. Tell 'em you read about us on the web! |
